Maria Gayapa, MD, DPPS
Outpatient Clinic Manager

I am a graduate of Angeles University Foundation Medical School in the Philippines where I also attended my Pediatric residency training in addition to Manila Doctors Hospital. I also hold a Bachelors degree in Medical Technology from University of Santo Tomas.

Before coming to American Samoa I started my career in the Pacific in Fiji Islands and was one of two pediatricians who started the Department of Pediatrics in Labasa Hospital 2001. I have special interest, training and certification in tropical medicine, lactation consultation and in establishing Baby Friendly Hospitals in resource-limited regions in the Pacific.

Currently I am a full time clinic pediatrician, hospital based instructor in Neonatal Resuscitation Program and a member of the International Lactation Consultant association.

I am married and have three wildly fun children. I love working in the garden and enjoy Bonsai cultivation and orchid breeding. Occasionally I will let my colleague John DePasquale take my family on wild and crazy hikes to blow holes along the coast.
